Dhaka University of Engineering & Technology
General Information
Dhaka University of Engineering & Technology (DUET), Gazipur is one of the reputed universities for the study of Engineering in Bangladesh. The University originated in 1980 as a Faculty of Engineering under the University of Dhaka offering four years ' Bachelor degree in Civil ,Electrical and Electronic and Mechanical Engineering ' to help meet the growing need for advanced engineering education in Bangladesh. With new technologies appearing faster than developing countries can absorb them, the technology gap between developing and industrialized nations continue to widen at an alarming rate. A major reason for this widening gap is the lack of skilled engineers capable of integrating new technologies into existing, systems and networks. To alleviate this situation by educating engineers with the ability to plan, administer and manage the latest technologies, in June, 1986, under its name of Bangladesh Institute of Technology, Dhaka, the Institute became an autonomous institution empowered to award degrees. From 1st September 2003, the Institute has started its journey as a full-fledged University named as Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology, Gazipur. Till today, it has produced around 2500 graduates in different branches of engineering and has established a good reputation all over the world for the quality of its graduates. The curricula of DUET, Gazipur address the regions' practical needs, present and future, through undergraduate and graduate programs.
Location
DUET is situated in Gazipur some 40KM north from Dhaka city. It besides the Bangladesh Machine Tools Factory(BMTF). Also nearer to Bangladesh Ordnace Factory(BOF). Some 5 public universities are situated in Gazipur.
Campus
DUET covers an area about 20.29 acres. It has a compact campus with library, auditorium, halls of residence and residential buildings for teachers and employees within walking distance of the academic building. Post Office is also located in the same building. A new multistoried academic building is under construction.

History
Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology opened in September 2003, and is one of the five technological Universities in Bangladesh..
The university was created out of Engineering College, Dhaka, which was established in 1980. Through a Government Ordinance in 1986 the college was converted into an institution (BIT, Dhaka). The honorable President of Bangladesh was the visitor of the institute. A Board of Governors headed by a Chairman appointed by the President is the policy making and administrative authority. There were three other similar Institutes of Technology in the country, namely, BIT Khulna, BIT Rajshahi and BIT Chittagong which have been converted to Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET), Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET), Chittagong University of Engineering & Technology (CUET).
